YouTube playlists are perfect for binge-worthy content: tutorial series, lecture courses, music albums, podcast archives. The problem is downloading them. YouTube Premium only lets you save individual videos to a single mobile device, and online converters cap you at 3-5 playlist items per session. Neither works for serious bulk downloads.

SSvid handles unlimited playlists with up to 10 parallel downloads. Here's how.

Step-by-Step (90 Seconds)

1

Get SSvid

Download SSvid free for macOS, Windows, or Linux. No account, no signup. Install takes about 30 seconds.

2

Copy the playlist URL

Open YouTube and navigate to the playlist. Click Share on the playlist (not on an individual video). Copy the link. It looks like https://youtube.com/playlist?list=PLxxxxxxxxxxx.
Alternatively, you can copy any video URL from inside the playlist that includes the &list= parameter — SSvid will detect the playlist context.

3

Paste into SSvid

Open SSvid and paste the URL. SSvid detects the playlist, fetches metadata for every video (title, duration, thumbnail), and shows them in a list with checkboxes.

4

Choose what to download

Select All (default) or pick individual videos. Choose your preferred quality and format for the entire batch — 4K, 1080p, audio-only MP3, etc. Or set per-video formats if some videos need different settings.

5

Hit Download All

SSvid queues every video and downloads up to 10 in parallel. Watch the progress in the Downloads panel. Pause, resume, or cancel anytime. Files save to your chosen folder, organized by playlist name.

Pro tip: For tutorial / course playlists, use the Add to Filename: index option. This prefixes each file with its playlist position (e.g. 01-intro.mp4, 02-setup.mp4) so they sort correctly in your file manager.

Speed: Real Numbers

With 10 parallel downloads and a fast connection, SSvid is the fastest playlist downloader available. Some real numbers from our tests:

Audio-Only Playlists (Music)

If you're downloading a music playlist, switch the format to MP3 or M4A. SSvid extracts audio at the highest available bitrate (up to 320kbps MP3 or 256kbps AAC). The result is a folder of clean, properly tagged audio files — perfect for offline listening, DJ libraries, or podcast archives.

SSvid pulls metadata from YouTube automatically: track title, artist (if available), duration, thumbnail (as embedded album art). Most music players will display them correctly without additional tagging.

What About Long Playlists (500+ Videos)?

SSvid has no playlist size limit. Tested up to 1000 videos in a single playlist with no issues. The interface stays responsive (videos load in batches of 50), and downloads queue up automatically as earlier ones finish.

For very large playlists, we recommend:

  • Use a wired connection — wireless is fine for small batches but stability matters over long downloads.
  • Pick a sensible quality — 1080p instead of 4K saves significant disk space (~150 MB vs ~500 MB per 10 minutes).
  • Enable "Skip existing" in Settings — if the download is interrupted, SSvid will resume without re-downloading completed files.
  • Save to an external drive if your internal SSD doesn't have hundreds of GB free.

Pause, Resume, and Reliability

SSvid uses HTTP range requests, which means every download supports pause/resume. If your connection drops mid-batch, SSvid pauses and waits. When the connection returns, it resumes where it left off — no wasted bandwidth, no lost progress.

If your computer goes to sleep, SSvid resumes downloads automatically when it wakes. If you close SSvid and reopen it, the download queue restores from where you stopped.

Channel Downloads (Bonus)

You can also paste a YouTube channel URL (e.g. https://youtube.com/@channelname) and SSvid will detect it as a "playlist" of all the channel's recent videos. Filter by date range, view count, or duration before downloading.

Legal Considerations

YouTube's Terms of Service technically prohibit downloading content without express permission, with exceptions for Premium offline mode and Creative Commons-licensed videos. In practice, downloading for personal offline viewing is widely considered fair use in most jurisdictions.

What you should NOT do:

  • Re-upload downloaded videos as your own content.
  • Use downloaded videos commercially without the creator's permission.
  • Distribute downloaded videos publicly (even free).

SSvid is a personal-use tool. Use it accordingly.
